Did you spend time on your favorite hobby over the weekend?
Do you even have a hobby?
I pretty much gave up on having hobbies for 6+ years.
I was too focused on my role at my last company that I didn't prioritize taking time to enjoy life, so unfortunately, I burned out.
There's no reason for you to make the same mistake I did.
As I prepare to head back to work after a fun Labor Day weekend, I wanted to write a quick note to encourage you to find a hobby. It's one of the more practical things you can do to avoid burnout.
If you already have one, great! Make sure you block out time to enjoy it on a regular basis.
If you don't have a hobby, you can start by finding something you enjoy doing.
Find something that uses your creative juices.
Find a hobby that helps you be physically active. This is especially important if you're like me and stare at a computer all day at work.
Here are a few hobby ideas to get you thinking:
Playing guitar
Knitting
Yoga with Friends
Playing sports
Gardening
Starting a business
Writing
Reading
Traveling
Swimming
Building things
Rock climbing
There are thousands of other hobbies in the world, so if none of the above sound appealing, start googling!
The point of finding a hobby is to regularly spend time doing something you enjoy, other than work (watching Netflix doesn't count as a hobby, by the way).
So what do you think? Which hobby are you going to spend more time on? Send me a note on LinkedIn to let me know!
